Fishing Waters

Hyannis &
Lewis Bay

The heart of Cape Cod and the home port of Bloodline Charters. Lewis Bay offers direct access to Nantucket Sound and Monomoy, some of the most productive inshore and offshore fishing grounds in New England.

Overview

Cape Cod's Premier Departure Point

Hyannis sits on the south shore of Cape Cod, where Lewis Bay opens directly into Nantucket Sound. This is one of the most strategic locations for charter fishing on the Cape: you clear the bay and you are on productive water immediately, with Nantucket Sound stretching 30 miles between the Cape and the islands.

Nantucket Sound is rich with structure. Bishop and Clerks, a string of rocks just 3-4 miles south of Lewis Bay, holds sea bass, stripers, and squid through the season. Point Gammon and the Succonnesset Shoal rips produce big stripers on wire-line trolling. And Monomoy — the barrier beach off the Cape's elbow — is where a lot of the action happens. The Monomoy rips are some of the most productive striper and bluefish water on the entire East Coast.

Offshore, the Great South Channel and Nantucket Shoals are within reach for full-day tuna and shark runs. The canyons are accessible for multi-day trips targeting yellowfin, bigeye, mahi, and swordfish.

What We Catch

Species Found Here

Nantucket Sound sits at the confluence of cold Labrador Current and warm Gulf Stream waters, creating habitat for both northern and mid-Atlantic species. Inshore trips target the bread-and-butter gamefish of Cape Cod, while offshore runs open the door to pelagic giants.

Planning Your Trip

Best Times & Conditions

The fishing season out of Hyannis runs from late April through December. Inshore action peaks in June and again in September and October when migrating stripers stack up around the sound. Offshore tuna fishing is best from July through October, with the largest bluefin typically arriving in September. Moving tides drive the action around the shoals and rips of Nantucket Sound.
