Shark Fishing
Offshore shark fishing out of Falmouth Harbor. Blue sharks, thresher sharks, and porbeagle sharks in the productive waters south of Cape Cod. Full-day charter trips with all tackle provided.
Cape Cod Shark Fishing
Cape Cod sits at a unique geographic crossroads where the warm Gulf Stream current meets the cold Labrador Current flowing south from the Canadian Maritimes. This collision of water masses creates one of the richest feeding grounds in the North Atlantic and draws an impressive diversity of shark species to our offshore waters every summer.
Blue sharks are the most abundant species we encounter, often arriving in numbers that keep rods bent for hours at a time. These sleek, cobalt-blue predators range from 100 to over 300 pounds and are known for long, powerful runs that test both tackle and angler. Thresher sharks are the acrobats of the group — their extraordinarily long tails and habit of launching clear of the water make them one of the most spectacular game fish in the Atlantic. Porbeagle sharks round out the offshore mix, offering brute strength and bulldog stamina on heavy stand-up gear.
Whether you are a seasoned offshore angler or booking your first shark trip, our captains will put you on fish. Every charter includes all tackle, terminal gear, bait, and the expertise that comes from running these grounds season after season.
Where We Catch Them
Our shark trips run 15 to 30 miles offshore, targeting the deep blue water south and east of Martha's Vineyard where water temperatures climb into the upper 60s and low 70s during summer. These warm-water edges and temperature breaks concentrate bait, which in turn attracts sharks in reliable numbers.
We depart from Falmouth Harbor and run south through Vineyard Sound, passing Martha's Vineyard before reaching the offshore grounds. The 36-foot Harris Cuttyhunk handles the open-water run comfortably, with a deep-draft hull, enclosed cabin, and full head aboard. Once on station, we set up a drift and deploy our chum slick to draw sharks to the boat.
On a good day, the first sharks appear within thirty minutes of setting up. When conditions align, it is not uncommon to see multiple blues circling the boat at once, along with the occasional thresher or porbeagle rising through the slick.
Techniques
Shark fishing is all about the chum slick. We deploy a steady stream of fish oil and ground bait to create a scent trail that draws sharks from miles downwind. Baits are set at varying depths — some near the surface and others down deep — to cover the water column and appeal to different species.
We use heavy stand-up tackle rated for 50- to 80-pound line, paired with circle hooks for clean hooksets and safe releases. Live bait and fresh chunk baits both produce. Once a shark is hooked, the fight can last anywhere from ten minutes to well over an hour depending on the species and size. Our crew will coach you through every stage of the battle.
Season & Best Times
Our shark season runs from July 1 through December 10. Peak action falls between July and September when water temperatures are warmest and bait is most concentrated offshore. Blue sharks are present throughout the entire season, while threshers and porbeagles tend to peak in mid-summer.
Early-season trips often produce the highest numbers as sharks move into the area with the warming water. Fall trips can yield larger individual fish as bigger animals push through on their southward migration. Weather windows matter offshore — we monitor conditions closely and will communicate with you about optimal scheduling.
