Fishing Waters

Falmouth Harbor

Cape Cod's southwest corner and the home port of Bloodline Charters. Falmouth Harbor offers protected docking, easy access, and a strategic position minutes from the best inshore and offshore fishing grounds in New England.

Overview

Cape Cod's Premier Departure Point

Falmouth sits on the southwest corner of Cape Cod, where Buzzards Bay meets Vineyard Sound. The town's inner harbor is one of the most protected anchorages on the Cape, shielded from prevailing southwest winds by a natural breakwater and the curve of the shoreline. For charter fishing, this geography is an enormous advantage: you're on productive water within minutes of clearing the harbor mouth.

Buzzards Bay opens to the west and north, with miles of rocky shoreline, sand flats, and deep channels that hold striped bass, bluefish, and sea bass from May through October. To the south, Vineyard Sound funnels powerful tidal currents between the Elizabeth Islands, creating some of the most productive rips on the East Coast. And beyond the sound, the offshore grounds south of Martha's Vineyard are within reach for full-day tuna and shark trips.

Falmouth Harbor itself is productive fishing water. Striped bass feed around the harbor mouth on outgoing tides, and bluefish push bait against the seawalls during summer blitzes. There is ample parking near the marina, and the harbor is an easy drive from anywhere on the Upper Cape or the Bourne Bridge.

What We Catch

Species Found Here

Falmouth's position at the junction of three major water bodies gives anglers access to an unusually wide range of species. Inshore trips target the bread-and-butter gamefish of Cape Cod, while offshore runs open the door to pelagic giants.

Planning Your Trip

Best Times & Conditions

The fishing season around Falmouth runs from late April through November. Inshore action peaks in June and again in September and October when migrating stripers stack up along the shoreline. Offshore tuna fishing is best from July through October, with the largest bluefin typically arriving in September. Moving tides are essential in Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay — plan around the tide charts for the best results.
